SUMMARY:Lecture by Heinrich Gehring: Dementia\, Alzheimer's\, forgetfulness - when memory deteriorates
DESCRIPTION:To a certain extent\, increasing forgetfulness is an inevitable side effect of ageing. However\, if it is so pronounced that it makes normal everyday life difficult or impossible\, forgetfulness becomes a disease. Dementia is a disease that is more closely linked to age than any other brain disorder. The most common form of dementia is Alzheimer’s dementia\, in which nerve cells in the brain die for reasons that are not yet fully understood. However\, a blockage of the brain’s blood vessels\, e.g. due to a stroke\, can also trigger dementia. If nerve cells in the frontal and temporal lobes of the cerebrum die\, this can greatly change the personality and behavior of the person concerned\, often long before memory disorders become noticeable.

SUMMARY:Culture night in the city library
DESCRIPTION:Humor\, poetry\, light and art \nThere’s a lot to experience at the Radolfzell City Library on Thursday\, October 2\, 2025\, from 6 p.m. to midnight! Poetry slam and comedy champions Marvin Suckut and Gregor Stäheli\, who won the Swiss championships as “Team Schengen”\, will be there to present their eloquent blend of humor and poetry. In front of the city library\, a spectacular light projection transforms the building into a glowing work of art. Those who like it delicate and traditional can be adorned with artistic henna painting by the young artist Madeleine. And there will also be plenty of fine art: Böhringen artist Mike Francetic will be showing his works in an impressive exhibition using a rare technique of pen\, ink and wax. \nPoetry Slam \nWith more than 3000 performances under their belts\, Suckut and Stäheli bring the experience of entire tours to the stage – and plenty of nonsense along with it. Sometimes in the form of witty short stories\, sometimes as humorous poems\, but always guaranteed with a good dose of charm. The fact that they also appear as newly crowned champions makes it all the more exciting. \nPerformances at 8 pm and 10 pm! \nLight installation \nBut it’s not just the spoken word that takes center stage: as soon as dusk falls\, the city library is cloaked in a completely new guise. A specially developed light projection conjures up a fascinating play of colors on the façade\, making it an eye-catcher at night. \nHenna art \nIf you want to experience the magic of India\, you should definitely pay a visit to henna artist Madeleine. Her delicate patterns\, completely free of chemicals\, bring culture\, history and expression directly onto your skin – a touch of India in the middle of Radolfzell. \nPen and ink drawings by Mike Francetic \nFor all those who prefer to look at art rather than wear it\, the library opens its doors to the works of Mike Francetic. His detailed pen and ink drawings in sepia ink and wax are not only exceptional in terms of craftsmanship\, but also show Radolfzell and the region in a very special light. \nFurther information on the Culture Night can be found on the Radolfzell City Library website: https://radolfzell-stadtbibliothek.de.
